Nellie Blanche Snyder, 100, of 400 Shady Avenue, Charleroi, formerly of Bentleyville, died at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 1989, in Colonial Manor of Bentleyville, where she had been a resident since June 1988. She was born September 30, 1888, on a West Pike Run Township farm, a daughter of John Nelson and Isabel Hamer Snyder.
As a young girl, Miss Snyder worked in her father's confectionery store in Bentleyville. It was her first job off the family farm. Later, she was employed as a clerk at the U.S. Post Office in Bentleyville.
Prior to her retirement in 1959, Miss Snyder was employed for 37 years as a bank teller and bookkeeper, balancing the ledgers for Union National Bank in Bentleyville, as well as the two banks that proceeded it, Citizen's National Bank and the Farmers' and Miners' National Bank.
A lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bentleyville, she sang in the church choir for many years and was a member of the C.I.C. class of the church.
While a resident of Charleroi for 14 years, she made her home with Lois Snyder. She also attended the Presbyterian Church of Charleroi, where she was a member of the Women's bible Class, the Women's Association and the Evening Circle.
Miss Snyder also belonged to the Pioneer Club of Bentleyville and was a member of the Monongahela Valley Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
Deceased are four brothers, Elvie, Elroy, Russell and Edgar. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Renninger of Monongahela and Mrs. Frank (Jean) Durko of Ellsworth; two nephews, Arthur Snyder of Washington and Guy Snyder of Canonsburg; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
